ACOM Admissions

The Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM) requires applicants to have completed a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States or Canada. While ACOM does not have specific SAT or ACT score requirements, students should aim to have competitive scores in order to be considered for admission.

For the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), ACOM requires a minimum score of 500. However, the average MCAT score for accepted students is typically higher, with the most recent reported average being 506.7.

It’s worth noting that ACOM takes a holistic approach to admissions, considering factors such as an applicant’s academic performance, extracurricular activities, personal characteristics, and life experiences in addition to standardized test scores. While strong test scores are important, they are not the only factor considered in the admissions process.

In addition to test scores, ACOM also considers an applicant’s undergraduate GPA. The average GPA of accepted students is typically around 3.5. However, ACOM takes into account the rigor of an applicant’s coursework and the competitiveness of their undergraduate institution, so students with slightly lower GPAs may still be considered if they have demonstrated academic excellence in other ways.

Furthermore, ACOM values diversity and encourages applications from individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. The college also offers programs to support students from underrepresented minority groups and disadvantaged backgrounds.
