Macon County is located in the east central part of Alabama. The county seat is Tuskegee. It is approaching 20,000 in population. Historically, the county is mostly known for two things: being the home of Tuskegee Institute and the most staunch Democratic voters in the United States.

Developed for cotton plantation agriculture in the nineteenth century, the county is within the Black Belt of the South.The majority of Macon’s population is Black or African-American.

Fun fact: since 1964, no non-Democrat on a presidential level has ever gotten more than 33% of the vote.
