Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM) is a private medical school in Dothan, Alabama.

It is the first osteopathic medical school in the state and is believed to be the first osteopathic medical school in the nation established by a regional not-for-profit hospital.

ACOM’s mission is to “educate and prepare osteopathic physicians who will provide compassionate, patient-centered care to the people of Alabama and beyond.” The school’s vision is to be “the premier osteopathic medical school in the Southeast.”

ACOM Admission Requirements

ACOM’s admission requirements are competitive.

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum GPA of 3.0. The average GPA of first-year students at ACOM is 3.6.

They must also take the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) and score within the 50th percentile or higher. The average MCAT score of first-year students is 505

In addition, applicants must submit letters of recommendation, a personal statement, and a secondary application. The letters should be from individuals who can speak to your academic ability and potential as a physician.

ACOM requires applicants to submit a secondary application. The secondary application includes additional questions about your academic background, extracurricular activities, and personal experiences.

Class Profile

The school accepts approximately 100 students each year. The gender breakdown of the student body is 55% male and 45% female.

The racial breakdown of the student body is 70% white, 15% black, 10% Hispanic, and 5% other.

Interview and selection

The interview process at ACOM is two-tiered. The first tier is a video interview that is conducted by a member of the admissions committee. The second tier is an on-campus interview that is conducted by a group of faculty and staff.

The selection process at ACOM is holistic. The admissions committee considers a variety of factors, including academic performance, MCAT scores, letters of recommendation, personal statement, and interview performance.
